Survey for grant successful

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

The first step has been completed.

Recently, members of the Knightsville Town Council had asked community members to fill out survey forms in order for the town to apply for a Community Development Block Grant, monies for projects involving the town waterworks and storm sewers.

Recently, Knightsville Town Clerk/Treasurer Charlotte Reyher told The Brazil Times the town has received enough income surveys from residents for the projects to begin moving forward.

Members of the town council and Reyher completed the task by paying visits to town residents.

"Actually, going door-to-door gave us an opportunity to meet the residents and for them to meet us," Reyher said. "We had to conduct a few by phone because of the weather, but everyone was very helpful and we appreciate that.

"I had very little negativity. I was amazed. It thought that was great. That tells me that the people want these improvements."

She said the waterworks information has already been sent for certification and the storm sewer project is in line, adding WCIEDD representative Kristy Jerrell picked up the final storm sewer project surveys only recently.

The town council has scheduled a meeting with West Central Indiana Economic Development District Economic Development Planner Terry Jones to discuss the next steps the town has to take.

The meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m., Jan. 11, 2010.

"We will discuss the next steps to take (with Jones) in the application process," Reyher said.

Reyher said Jones has informed the council that once all surveys are officially certified, the town can proceed on working toward the grant applications.

"Hopefully, we'll be able to get this funding and get some improvements for the town," Reyher said.
