The Brazil Times, in conjunction with Clay County Relay For Life, has scheduled a chili cookoff.
The event will take place Friday, Feb. 26, and will be sponsored by The Brazil Times' Relay For Life team, "Clark Kent Super Group."
The challenge is for all local residents. It calls for citizens to dust off those family cookbooks or look up the secret family recipes or possibly, create a new version of a standard.
Businesses are encouraged to participate but will be judged in a separate category.
Entry fee will be $5 for individuals and/or Relay For Life Teams and $10 for businesses. All proceeds will be used to support Clay County Relay For Life.
Those interested in competing will be asked to bring at least one gallon of their dish to The Times' office, 100 N. Meridian St., Brazil, on Feb. 26, between 10-11 a.m.
Official judging will begin at 11:15 a.m.
Leftover chili will be on sale throughout the day, with all proceeds going to Relay For Life.
Judges will include public officials and possibly team members of the "Clark Kent Super Group," provided they have not entered the contest.
The winner will receive $25, a three-month subscription to The Brazil Times, their picture in the newspaper and bragging rights.
Chili shots will also be on sale for lunch for 50 cents per cup.
