In 2010, Utilities District of Western Indiana REMC will again be a sponsor of the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
The trip marks the 51st year that Indiana's electric cooperatives will have hosted the Youth Tour giving young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation's capital to learn about government and electric cooperatives.
This year's trip will begin June 10, in Indianapolis, with a tour of the Indiana Statehouse, and an orientation program at Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., and delegates will return home June 17.
According to Brian L. Sparks, UDWI CEO, more than 1,500 students from across the country will join Indiana's delegation in Washington, D.C., for the four-day conference.
On the way to Washington, D.C., students will visit the Gettysburg Battlefield and Baltimore's Inner Harbor. While in the nation's capital, the tour will include visits to sights such as Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln, Jefferson and warm memorials, the National Mall Museums and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
