Despite a small agenda, the Common Council of the City of Brazil made a big change during Tuesday's meeting.
Upon a suggestion from Ward 1 Council Member Brad Deal, the council unanimously approved to change its meeting dates.
Rather than meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, the council will now meet on the second Wednesday of the month, at 7 p.m., in the Council Chambers of City Hall.
Also approved as part of the motion was setting the fourth Wednesday of the month as a second meeting date for the council, but only when an issue arises to warrant a meeting.
"There isn't going to be something to discuss for us to have a second meeting every month," Deal said. "But, if we have a date in place for us to meet if we need to, I think it will help the public if they want to attend a meeting, but can't make it to the first one."
Meanwhile, the council selected its officers for the year.
For the position of council president, Deal was nominated by Bill Lovett, while Steve Lamb was nominated by Sam Glover. In a 3-1 vote -- with Deal abstaining, Lamb was chosen as council president.
Lamb then nominated Deal for vice president of the council, and Pat Heffner nominated Sam Glover. Following an initial 2-1 vote for Deal in which both he and Glover abstained, the council discussed whether the vote was valid as a majority of the council had not voted in favor of the measure, a second vote was taken. Deal and Glover each voted for themselves as Deal was selected as vice president.
The next meeting of the Common Council of the City of Brazil will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Council Chambers of City Hall.
