A sluggish first half resulted in a lopsided defeat for the Northview freshman team, who fell hard to the Patriots of Terre Haute North, by a score of 53-34 Thursday night.

The Patriots dominated the first half in all phases, most notably on the boards, where they held an 18-6 rebound advantage.

Northview struggled to gain any momentum offensively, as they were unable to hit shots from the outside, and were shut down in the paint by North center Nathan Paul-Bonham. The 6'8 Bonham led all players in rebounds (10) and blocked shots.

In the first half, only one Northview player, Craig Peters, was able to score, and they went into the locker room in a 28-7 hole.

"I really don't have an explanation," Bennett said when asked why he felt his team's effort was lacking. "(Games) aren't going to be fun when you play like that, and tonight was no fun."

Northview's effort was noticeably more vibrant in the second half, but the damage proved too great, as the Knights were never able to get closer than 13. The lopsided loss overshadowed an impressive performance by Peters, who scored a game-high 20 points, including five 3-pointers. Bryce Britton led Northview on the boards with eight rebounds.

The loss drops Northview to 4-6. Bennett said his teams' success for the remainder of the year would depend on how hard his guys were willing to play.

"If we want to win, we have to play hard throughout," Bennett said. "If we play hard, we are capable of playing with anyone, but we have to be able to show we can do it."

Things didn't go any smoother for the freshman B-team, which suffered a 31-10 pounding in a half of play against the Patriots. Travis Campbell led the Knights with four points.

Northview freshman return to action tonight with a game at Terre Haute South.
