MARSHALL -- The Clay City Eels' struggles continued on Saturday evening with a 55-38 loss to Turkey Run. The loss was Clay City's eighth-consecutive defeat this season.

Turkey Run outscored the Eels in each of the four quarters as Clay City struggled to get find any sort of offensive rhythm while hitting just 32 percent (14-of-44) from the field.

"This has been a rough couple weeks for the guys," Eels' coach Vance Edmondson commented. "Again we only played part of a ball game; we just need to be more consistent. I thought we did a lot better in the second half with defense tonight."

Clay City trailed 20-13 at halftime before the Warriors strung together a 17-point third quarter to push the advantage to 37-21 heading into the final period. The Eels made a run at the home standing Warriors, chopping the gap to 10 in the middle of the fourth quarter, but couldn't close the gap any further. Clay City got improved defense in the final quarter, which sparked the rally as A.J. Evans, D.J. Newton and Tyler Jenkins each had a pair of steals, but Jake Weaver was clutch from the line for Turkey Run. The senior knocked home seven-of-eight from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and 10-of-12 in the game on the way to an 18-point night.

"I thought we did a pretty good job taking care of Weaver in the second and third quarters," Edmondson said. "We had to foul late in the game, which was Weaver since he was their primary ball handler and he hit most of his free throws."

Newton and Tyler Bridgewater each had 12 points for Clay City, but Newton was held without a point in the fourth quarter and hit just four-of-15 from the field in the contest. Newton did lead the team with nine rebounds.

In the JV game, Clay City got within a point with six seconds remaining, but was unable to get over the hump in a 23-21 defeat.

Kole Smith had 12 points, Colton Dyer added four and Ethan Shaw contributed three.

The Eels (3-9 overall) hit the road to face Sullivan on Friday night.
