Jim Hite joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at the age of 65.
He was active until the last four months of his life, living -- as he had had for the past 12 years -- in Tampa, Fla., enjoying retirement, and golf. His death came quietly following a brief battle with cancer.
Son, brother, father and grandfather, Jim was born Aug. 16, 1944, in Brazil, to Harold and Mary Jo (Roberts) Hite. He graduated from Staunton High School with the Class of 1962. During high school, Jim was a productive member of the basketball team. Jim left for Chicago after graduation to work for the airlines and worked for Northwest Airlines for over 35 years, in many different capacities, living in Chicago, Portland, Ore., Los Angeles, Memphis, Tenn., Greenville, S.C. and Tampa, Fla. Jim was a friend for life, had a great sense of humor and was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Hite and sister Janice Hite.
He is survived by his devoted mother Mary Jo Hite, Kaufman, Texas, loving son Gregory James Hite, wife Kumiko and adorable grandson, Noah, San Jose, Calif., caring sister Patricia Jane Brown of Knightsville, aunt Margaret Rozelle, Fishers, stalwart uncle Wylie Roberts and wife Adeline, Kaufman, Texas, nieces Tammy Rothrock and Pamela Paulis, best friend Keith Nelson and life partner Naoma Britten.
At Jim's request cremation services were provided in Florida. Burial services will be at Union Cemetery, Brazil, Jan. 23, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Scott Aselage officiating. Local services have been entrusted to French Funeral Home.
