The Northview boys' basketball team visited East Side Elementary recently to read to the students in conjunction with the East Side's "Reading Is Fundamental" program.

Each class had a basketball player read them a book and talked about the importance of learning to read and the benefit of reading good books.

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is a national program, founded in 1966, which develops and delivers family and children literacy programs for the purpose of motivating school-age children to read regularly.

Through a national network of volunteers, RIF programs also provide new books for free, along with other essential resources to millions of children.

This was the second distribution of free books this school year and the East Side Elementary PTO also helped with a portion of the cost of the books.
