Second half surge leads Arrows by Eels

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Times Staff Report

SULLIVAN -- The Clay City Eels haven't been able to catch many breaks since a pair of home wins over the weekend of Dec. 11-12. On Friday night, they were slated to face a 13-2 Sullivan squad that was none to happy about being drilled the weekend before on the road at Vincennes Lincoln.

The Arrows got back into the win column at home, using a 30-point third quarter to pull away and send the Eels to their ninth-straight loss, 77-52.

Clay City remained within 25-21 at halftime, but the Arrows came out on fire in the second half, outscoring the Eels 30-20 in the third quarter and scored 52 second half points in the victory.

Ben Denker had 18 points for the Eels to lead the team and Sullivan's Dreyson Boyd posted a game-high 21 with sophomore Rhett Smith tallying 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The Eels fall to 3-10 overall and face North Daviess at home on Friday evening and White River Valley on Saturday night.
