She was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Clay County, the daughter of Fred and Verna Heck.
She attended the Vinegar Hill School and the Brazil High School.
On Oct. 21, 1936, she married Elmer E. Deardorff. Together, they owned and operated the family farm.
Virginia helped on the farm whenever she was needed. She and Elmer were married for more than 65 years.
Virginia enjoyed crocheting, needlework, puzzles and traveling. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with family. She had also attended the 1st United Methodist Church since moving to Seymour.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, brothers Dale Heck and Ray Heck, and sister Maxine Stanton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Jim Aker, Seymour, grandchildren Kevin Aker (Darla), Columbus, Ind., Kellie Yon (Eddie), Greencastle, and Kara Abraham, Seymour, great-grandchildren Colin Aker, Michaela Aker, Kaylin Yon, Zane Yon and Briley Abraham, sister Vaunda Johnson, Terre Haute, brothers Oscar Heck, Florida, Leo Heck (Marge), Sevierville, Tenn., and Loyd Heck (Maryann), Lebanon, Ind., sister-in-law Ruby Heck, Winamac, Ind., many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will take place Thursday, at 11 a.m., at French Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Cherry officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m., and again Thursday prior to services.
