She was born Oct. 12, 1934, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Robison, Brazil. Mary grew up in the Bee Ridge area and graduated from Brazil High School in 1952. During her early adult life, she was employed by R.H. Donnelly in Terre Haute where she resumed employment later in life.
She was united in marriage to James J. Stearley at Peniel United Methodist Church on June 6, 1954. They resided in Center Point for a brief time before moving to Stearleyville, where they built their home.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She took pride in her home and had a passion for decorating and flower arranging. Over the years, she was mindful of friends, neighbors and relatives in need. A visit with a basket of food was one of her hallmarks.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband James J. Stearley, Brazil, sons Kirby Stearley, Indianapolis, and Vince Stearley and fiancée Mavery Quinn, Brazil, sister Patricia Mercer, Indianapolis, brothers Joseph Robison (Arnetta), Freelandville, William Robison (Betty), Brazil, Albert Robison (Sandy), Brazil, grandchildren Eric Stearley, Taylor Stearley, Curtis Stearley and Kenzie Stearley, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at 2 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil, with Rev. John Gantt officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, from 4-8 p.m., and prior to services Friday.
