Although it's murky outside, participating in the 2010 American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days is a great way to look forward to spring and share in the hope for a time when the world is free of cancer.

According to Times' General Manager Lynne Llewellyn, The Brazil Times will once again be participating in the event.

"Buying daffodils is such a nice way to enjoy spring and participate in such a worthy cause," Llewellyn said about the office, located at 100 North Meridian St., being an order/pickup site. "The staff and myself enjoy having the daffodils delivered here at The Times. Not only do they brighten the office with the colors of spring, but they smell terrific."

Orders can be placed during normal business hours starting today through March 15 for delivery during the week of March 22-26. Extra bundles of the flowers will be available after the order date, but are limited to a first-come-first-serve basis. All donations will be collected at the time of order.

A bunch of 10 fresh-cut daffodils will be available for a donation of $10 or $15 for a bunch and a glass vase. Also available for a donation of $25 is the Gift of Hope, a bouquet of flowers anonymously delivered to a cancer patient at local hospitals, nursing homes and other patient care facilities.

Cases of daffodils can also be purchased for $500.

Gift of Hope donations will also be accepted throughout the event.

The donations collected are used to offer free programs and services to help people fight cancer with courage and optimism, providing physical and emotional support and financial information, while also helping to support groundbreaking cancer research and advocate for meaningful public health education programs and policies that benefit the community.

For more information about Daffodil Days, or to place an order, contact The Brazil Times at 446-2216 or the Wabash Valley ACS office at 812-232-2679.

The 2010 Clay County American Cancer Society Relay For Life is scheduled for May 22-23, 2010, at the Clay County YMCA.

However, things really kick into gear on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Riddell National Bank, Brazil.

After a Committee Meeting at 5:30-6:45 p.m., the annual Relay For Life Kickoff Event starts. There will be helpful event information, a registration site, a model campsite, speakers, food, games and door prizes to celebrate the upcoming event.
