The Clay City seventh-grade boys' basketball team wrapped up its season with a convincing victory over Union on Monday night, 53-13.
The Eels were strong on both ends of the floor to open the game with a 15-0 advantage after the first quarter and held a 26-3 lead at halftime.
Each member of the Eels were contributors in the game with rebounding, hard-nosed defense and running a well-executed offense.
Cade Newton led the team with 16 points and five rebounds while Evan Rogers tallying 11 and Parker Ames adding six points. Logan Ames also had five rebounds in the win that improved the team's record to 13-4 this season.
The Clay City girls' junior high teams also picked up victories with a pair of home wins over Rockville.
The Clay City seventh-grade pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Rox, 12-3 in the period. The Eels went on to win a 29-18 decision as Logan Ellinger led in scoring with 11 points. Whitney Milner added eight while both Emmie Kittle and Ashley Linton had four apiece. Samantha Hall closed out the scoring with two points.
In the eighth-grade game, Clay City posted its second win of the season with a 33-14 win.
Alex Wolfe scored 10 while Ellinger had seven, Kittle had six, Claire Miller tallied four, Emily Denny, Linton and Abby Shidler each had two.
The seventh-grade is now 4-3 overall and the eighth-grade is now 2-5.
