He was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Putnam County, to George and Izma Shaughnessy.
He retired from CSX Railroad, where he worked as an Agent-Telegrapher and later as a Brakeman Conductor for 29 years. He was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and United Transportation Union.
He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division from 1956-58. He graduated from Greencastle High School with the class of 1954. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved his grandchildren dearly. He was an avid NASCAR fan of the late Dale Earnhardt.
Survivors include his brother Larry Shaughnessy and Evelyn, Pittsboro, Ind., son Michael O'Shaugh-nessy, Cedar Park, Texas, former wife Annis Shaughnessy, Brazil, daughter Echelle Brown, Lafayette, nephew Timothy Shaughnessy and wife Melanie and daughter Molly, Avon, stepdaughter Shannon Orman, stepdaughter Tami Davis, stepson Joseph Davis, Brazil, grandchildren Dakota and River Davis, Zoe and India Orman, Brazil, Tanner Johnson, Lafayette, and Ryan and Cayla O'Shaughnessy, Cedar Park, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter Kathy Shaughnessy.
Services are at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, 4 N. Percy Julian Dr., Greencastle, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Harold Rightor officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home, from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.
