Tincher not seeking re-election

Monday, February 8, 2010

TERRE HAUTE -- State Rep. Vern Tincher (D-Riley) announced Monday morning he will not seek re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives.

Tincher was first elected to the House in November 1982 and has served 24 of the past 28 years as representative of District 46, which encompasses all or parts of Vigo, Clay and Owen counties and one township in Monroe County.

Tincher, 74, is a former Indiana State Police officer.

Recently, former Clay County resident Bob Heaton announced he was running again for the seat.

Heaton ran on the Republican ticket against Tincher in 2008.

He is a 1975 graduate of Clay City High School and 1980 graduate of Indiana State University, where he played on Sycamores' 1979 NCAA runner-up team.
