He was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Clay County, the son of Raymond Cooksey and Bertha (Mitchler) Cooksey.
He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed at Ft. De Russy in Hawaii as a Military Policeman.
During his working years, he worked at Arketex, Martin Marietta and retired from Anchor Stone in Oklahoma.
After his retirement, he enjoyed watching wrestling and NASCAR and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Clyde Cooksey.
He is survived by his wife Dortha Helen (Batchelor) Cooksey, whom he married April 5, 1952, daughters Mary Carr, Sheila Higginbotham (Tracy), and Darline Croy (fiancÚ Frank Bernarte), sons Kenneth Cooksey, Roger Cooksey (Doris), Donald Cooksey, Mark Cooksey (Debra), and Curtis J. "Curt" Cooksey, sisters Thelma Hughbanks, Eva Hayes, and Norma Martin, 33 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren.
At his request, cremation is scheduled. Private graveside services will take place at Summit Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
