Contests set for winter guards

The Clay City Winter Guard will be at Greenfield-Central High School Saturday for its second competition of the season.

The group is scheduled to perform from 10:21 a.m.

Clay City will compete against Centerville, New Castle, Columbus North, Pike Central and East Central in Class B, as part of the Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA).

Awards for Class B will be announced at 1:15 p.m.

Last week, Clay City competed at the New Palestine Winter Guard Invitational, coming away with a Silver rating.

Clay City tallied a score of 57.5, placing second in Class B at New Palestine.

Fort Wayne-Wayne was the winner with a Gold rating and a score of 65.3. New Castle placed third with a Bronze rating and a score of 53, while East Central earned fourth with a Bronze rating and a score of 51.3. Centerville placed fifth with a Bronze rating and a score of 50.7.

Judging is based on equipment, movement, ensemble, general effect and timing.

Clay City will also compete at the Northview High School Winter Guard contest Feb. 27.

The group will be up against Columbus North and Owen Valley in Class B. Clay City will perform at 11:49 a.m.

In addition, North Clay Middle School will compete in the Feb. 27 contest as well.

The Knights, competing in the Cadet Class, will take the court at 11:28 a.m.

Other squads competing in Cadet Class at the show will include Clark-Pleasant Middle School, Zionsville, Martinsville East Middle School, North Putnam, Greenfield-Central Middle School and Avon.

The awards ceremony for Class B, Cadet Class and Class AAA will take place at 1:53 p.m.

North Clay will also compete in Divisional Finals March 13, at Center Grove High School.

The Northview Winter Guard currently competes in Winter Guard International and will take part in the 2010 Dayton Power Regional, Feb. 27-28, in Dayton, Ohio.

Competing in the Scholastic World Class, Northview is scheduled to compete Saturday, Feb. 27. Other schools entered in Scholastic World Class from Indiana include Avon, Carmel, Center Grove and Warren Central. Other teams include Centerville High School (Centerville, Ohio), Gates Chili High School (Rochester, N.Y.), Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights, Ill.), Miamisburg High School (Miamisburg, Ohio), and Northmont High School (Clayton, Ohio).

Northview is also scheduled to perform in the Indianapolis Power Regional March 13-14.

The WGI Color Guard World Championships are scheduled to take place April 8-10, in Dayton, Ohio.
