Mary Longshore, 81, Brazil, died unexpectedly Feb. 17, 2010, at her residence.
She was born May 23, 1928, in Watseka, Ill., the daughter of James H. Longshore and Mabel Dulin Longshore.
She was raised in Brazil and graduated from Brazil High School.
She later attended three years of college at DePauw University.
She began working at the family business, Continental Car-na-var, in the office, and bookkeeping and later served as Vice President of the company. As a young girl, she also worked at Hillman Jewelers in Terre Haute and worked in advertising.
In 1976, following the sale of Car-na-var, Mary began working as the office manager at Mark E. French and Son, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick car dealership. She worked there until 1988 and retirement time came.
She enjoyed spending winters at their family home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mary was a past member of Tri-Kappa, B&PW, American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 2, and the Fish and Game Conservation Club in southern Clay County. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Mary was known for her straight talk, not being afraid to share her opinion and for her generosity to those close to her.
Survivors include her niece Mary Moore, Aiken, S.C., and great-nephews Dulin Abney and Brooks Abney, also of South Carolina, and a select group of friends here in Brazil, including Judy Berry and neighbors Emery and Diane Reynolds.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and dear sister Anne Cowger.
Graveside services will take place Sunday, at Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville, Ind., at 3 p.m.
Mary requested that no flowers be sent and memorial contributions may be made in her memory to All Children's Hospital, PO Box 3142, St. Petersburg, Fla, 33731.
