Editor's Note: The following is a letter from the American Red Cross Wabash Valley regarding Clay County's recent Haiti fund drive:

Dear friends at

The Brazil Times:

In the aftermath of a series of catastrophic earthquakes and the following aftershocks that struck Haiti, the American Red Cross stands with our Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the globe to put your donation to work.

With your timely collection, totaling $2,023 in cash and checks, we are helping to provide critical assistance to thousands of survivors in Haiti.

Almost immediately following the earthquakes, the American Red Cross released financial assistance, highly-trained staff and supplies such as hygiene kits, blankets and water containers, to support this massive humanitarian relief operation.

More than 500 Red Cross and Red Crescent workers from around the world, including 100 from the American Red Cross, are in Haiti distributing food and water, and providing shelter and basic medical aid.

To address growing needs, we are working in close coordination with humanitarian organizations on the ground and our local Red Cross partner, the Haitian National Red Cross Society. For victims of this devastating disaster, our work is the hope for tomorrow. This is a result of generous gifts from donors like you.

The American Red Cross stands ready to provide further assistance for those affected by this disaster in Haiti and we are grateful to have your support that brings hope and comfort to those affected by these devastating earthquakes.

As the response evolves, please visit www.redcross.org or call 866-932-3393 to learn more about your gift at work.

Once again, thank you for your compassionate support of the American Red Cross.

Sincerely,

Rod Bosley, Chair,

American Red Cross Wabash Valley Chapter
