The Northview High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble competed in its first show of the 2010 season at the IPA Decatur Central Contest Saturday, Feb. 13.
Northview placed fifth out of seven groups in its class.
The groups, according to director Rusty Bottomley, are evaluated on three categories, including Performance Analysis (focus on instrumental skills), Visual Analysis (focus on movement skills), and General Effect, which takes into account the overall program.
Northview placed seventh overall in Performance Analysis, second in Visual Analysis and third in General Effect.
"We don't have the entire show completed and hope to work towards that for our next show Feb. 27, at New Palestine," Bottomley said. "I thought we did well for our first show out, but we need to continue finishing up the program and gain more experience performing.
"I think the fact that the judges liked the construction elements of our show means that as we improve performance, we can move up in the standings."
The Northview unit will not compete this weekend. However, at New Palestine Feb. 27, the Knights are scheduled to perform at 7:28 p.m., and will face Columbus East, East Central and DeKalb.
