Groups perform well at Solo and Ensemble
The Northview High School Knight Singers and Symphonic Choir will showcase the music they performed at the Solo and Ensemble contest Thursday, at 7:30 p.m., in the Northview Auditorium.
The eighth-grade choir from North Clay Middle School will also join them for the concert and singing side-by-side the NHS Choirs. All three ensembles will perform Saturday at Otter Creek Middle School for the Indiana Music Educators Association non-competitive festival.
The choirs perform for a set of adjudicators and will be critiqued.
After the performance, they will be rehearsed by one of the judges.
In addition, the NHS choirs recently participated in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble contest.
Three ensembles performed at the district level at Terre Haute North High School.
A women's ensemble, composed of five women from the Symphonic Choir, and one from the Knight Singers, performed a song in the Group 2 classification and received a Gold Rating.
The Knight Singers competed as a men and women's ensemble.
The Knight Singer men performed a sea chantey and women performed an a cappella shaker hymn. Both ensembles received a Gold Rating.
There were 11 vocal soloists that also performed from the NHS Choirs and received the following ratings: Jessica Tallman (Gold), Maggie Blystone (Gold), Molly Williams (Gold), Gwendolyn Snow (Gold), Hannah Hoopingarner (Gold), Jacob Booker (Gold), Kirstyn Grady (Silver), Kaelene Jones (Silver), Brittany Lillibridge (Silver), Samantha Gibbens (Gold), and Haven Eder (Gold).
The Knight Singer men and women's ensemble advanced to the state competition and received Silver Ratings. The following vocalists performed at the state level as well: Haven Eder (Gold), Samantha Gibbens (Silver), Jessica Tallman (Gold), Maggie Blystone (Gold), Gwendolyn Snow (Gold) and Molly Williams (Gold).
