Refunds for the few tickets sold will be provided.

The stage will come alive on Thursday and Friday, March 11-12, as Northview High School's Thespian Troupe No. 872 presents "The Sound of Music." Students auditioned for the show in December and began rehearsals in January. During the two-and-a-half months of production many songs were sung, lines rehearsed, and dances learned.

For many years the story of Captain Georg VonTrapp, Maria Rainer, the VonTrapp children and the Nazi takeover of Austria has been well loved and often watched. The Captain has been lonely since the death of his wife. He is uncertain how to deal with his children alone and has left them in the care of numerous nannies, who are expected to use rigid discipline. When Maria is sent from Nonnberg Abbey an unexpected change takes place. The children actually like their governess. At the same time, the Captain returns home with a woman, Baroness Schraeder, he is considering marrying. Matters are complicated by the anticipated Nazi takeover of Austria.

On the night of a beautiful party, Maria realizes she is falling in love with the Captain and runs away to the Abbey. The Baroness realizes the Captain is never going to abandon his views on the Nazis and returns to her home in Vienna. Meanwhile Maria returns from the abbey and she and the Captain profess their love for one another. While the happy couple is gone on their honeymoon, the Nazi takeover of Austria occurs and the children are signed up to sing in the annual Salzburg Festival. The conflict takes place when the Nazis want the Captain to join their Navy upon his return from his honeymoon. The family makes plans to escape their beloved Austria and be free of the Nazi control.

A cast of 30 students, as well as student musicians, is eager to present this show to the public. Seating is reserved and tickets may be obtained by calling Northview High School 812-448-2661 Ext. 1235 to reserve the seats or by coming to the high school to purchase them. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. The show starts at 7 p.m., and doors to the auditorium will open at 6:30 p.m.

"The Sound of Music" is one of the best loved of all Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals, and Northview High School invites the public to join them as they bring it to life on March 11 and 12.

It would have been nice if they had listed the names of the students who were performing.
