Youth art contest winners announced

The top 16 winners in the Sisters of Providence Youth Art Contest received awards at a March 4 reception in Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Young artists were honored during the Sisters of Providence Youth Art Contest reception Thursday, March 4, in Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Approximately 85 people attended the reception in O'Shaughnessy Dining Room. This was the fourth year of the contest, which attracted 36 entries from the Wabash Valley.

This year's theme was "Saint Mother Theodore Guerin -- Indiana Pioneer."

All youths ages 5-18 who reside in Vigo, Clay, Parke, Vermillion and Sullivan counties in Indiana and Clark, Edgar and Crawford counties in Illinois were eligible to enter. Each artist who entered the contest received a Certificate of Participation and ribbon.

First- through third-place winners in four age categories received cash prizes, certificates and ribbons. Those selected for honorable mention were presented with certificates and ribbons.

Clay City High School student Kendra Carlson received honorable mention in the 14-18-year-old category.
