Mr. Puff was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Brazil, the son of the late Frank R. and Elizabeth (Raybould) Puff.
Mr. Puff graduated Van Buren High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
On Jan. 31, 1953, in Brazil, he was married to Agnes R. (Woodburn) Puff. Mrs. Puff survives.
As a young man, Mr. Puff worked for his family business, Puff Grocery, in Cardonia, Indiana. He was retired from the Hulman and Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, where he worked as a machinist for forty-two years.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather he enjoyed his family. Gene was an avid racecar fan attending the Indy 500 and Mini Hulman Speedway in Terre Haute. He enjoyed going to Dunkin' Doughnuts and visiting with friends every morning. He also loved gardening and going to the airport to watch the airplanes take off and land. He was also a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ, Terre Haute.
A brother, Don Puff, preceded him in death.
Surviving are wife Mrs. Agnes R. Puff, Lebanon, daughter Mrs. Sharon Kay Hollingsworth and husband Vincent L., Lebanon, two grandchildren Kristin Nicole Hollingsworth (fiancÚ Matthew Ryan Wollak, Hugo, Minn.), Lebanon, and Steven Michael Hollingsworth, Lebanon, sister-in-law Mrs. Rosie Puff, Brazil, and nephew Donnie Puff - Center Point, Indiana
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. Mark United Church of Christ, 475 Fruitridge Avenue, Terre Haute, with Pastor William Price officiating, and calling from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley, Indiana.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, Lebanon.
