Evelyn H. Jarrett, 82, Palatka, Fla., formerly of Brazil, died March 10, 2010, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness.

Evelyn was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of William and Opal (Perry) Ellis. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator where she quickly moved up to an operator supervisor. During this time, she met the love of her life, Frederick Stanley Jarrett, Jr. They were wed June 25, 1948, and traveled the world together as a military family before finally settling in Brazil in 1966.

Evelyn enjoyed golf, bowling, caring for her family and watching Jeopardy. During their retirement years, she especially enjoyed traveling with Fred for golfing and air show vacations in Arizona, Florida and Nevada. Evelyn was a Red Cross hospital volunteer, Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, and a secretary and treasurer of many bowling leagues. Her volunteer spirit continued while residing at Kiva ALF, where she helped with activities and errands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred in 2008, a son in infancy Charles Allen Jarrett, a son-in-law Steve Fuetter, and her dear grandson, Trevor Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Fuetter and June Story and her husband, Alan, Palatka, two great-grandchildren, T.J. Smith and Jennifer A. Smith, and other extended family.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Palatka, Fla.

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her memory to Hospice of the Nature Coast, 6721 Crill Avenue, Palatka, Fla. 32177.
