Future Northview High School students had their first taste of the art department recently.

Second- and third-grade students spent March 5, with the Art Club partaking in Youth Art Day.

"This is our first year for the event," Northview art teacher Joni Sutherland said. "We've had a good turn out."

Only students from the northern elementary schools were invited. Due to potential weather problems and distance, students from Clay City Elementary were not included.

The 50 students took part in four different activity centers. There was 3-D art where they constructed clay pinch pots. In the junk art activity students decorated fish made from plastic pop litters then in the 2-D art activity students worked on glow in the dark drawings.

The students also expressed their creativity in food with culinary art, which included cookies and icing to make a caterpillar.

The Northview Art Club sponsored the event and all students had their handprints done.
