North Clay, Clay City rate high in competition

It was a busy weekend for county winter guards and percussion units.

The North Clay Middle School Cadet Corp competed in the Indiana High School Color Guard Association (IHSCGA) Divisional Finals at Center Grove High School, coming away with a Gold rating.

North Clay was pitted in Cadet Class against Hamilton Southeastern, Warren Central, Maconaquah, Carmel JV, Eastside Middle School (Martinsville), Belzer Middle School, Fairfield, Avon, Greenfield-Central, Scottsburg, Zionsville and North Putnam. All teams received Gold ratings.

In addition, the Clay City Winter Guard competed in the IHSCGA Divisional Finals at Franklin Central High School. Taking part in Class B, the Eels managed a Silver rating.

Other Class B teams included Centerville (Silver), New Castle (Silver), Owen Valley (Silver), Columbus North (Gold), Goshen (Gold), and Randolph Southern (Silver).

The Northview High School Winter Guard took part in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Indianapolis Power Regional as well.

Competing in the Scholastic World Division, the Knights placed eighth with a score of 74.50. Avon won the event with a score of 90.5.

Other schools competing in the event included Carmel, Warren Central, Lawrence Central, Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights, Ill.), Center Grove, Centerville High School (Centerville, Ohio), and Northmont High School (Northmont, Ohio).

The NHS Winter Guard will take part in the IHSCGA State Finals this weekend at Center Grove.

Competing in the World Class Division, the Knights are pitted against Lawrence Central, Center Grove, Warren Central, Carmel and Avon.

Northview is scheduled to compete at 9 p.m.

The awards ceremony is set to take place at 10:10 p.m.

The Northview Indoor Percussion unit also competed in the Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) State Preliminaries at Avon High School this weekend.

Competing in Class PSO, Northview placed seventh out of 10 units with a score of 83.80. DeKalb won the event with a tally of 87.86.

Other competing schools included Ben Davis, Pike, Plainfield, Decatur Central, Norwell, Columbus East, East Central and Greenfield-Central.

The Knights will now compete in the IPA State Finals at Ben Davis High School Saturday.

Again competing in Class PSO, the Knights are scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m.
