Northview 'B' and 'C' baseball teams open with wins

The Northview 'B' and 'C' teams picked up victories in their season openers Thursday night.

The 'B' team pounded out a 17-1 win in five innings against Riverton Parke.

Craig Peters got the pitching victory with four-plus innings of work, striking out seven Panthers and allowing just one hit.

At the plate, Tyler Trout went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Curtis Grove was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, stole a pair of bases and scored twice. Bryant Pestoff had two hits, a stolen base and scored three times.

"This was a very good win for our JV team," coach Craig Trout said. "We had a great pitching performance from Craig Peters, and we did very well putting the ball in play. Of course we still have things to work on, but overall a great team effort to get the win."

Northview's 'C' team scored a 14-4 victory over visiting Crawfordsville on Thursday night in a game shortened via the 10-run rule in the sixth inning.

The Knights got a 3-for-3 performance at the plate from Steven Watts, who also scored twice and stole a pair of bases. Devin Clark swiped four bases and scored three times for the Knights and Brock Smith piled up four RBI while going 3-for-5 at the plate.

Dakota Davis and Denver Reberger each had a base hit with Reberger scoring twice.

Smith started the game and went 3 1/3 innings while striking out four and allowing three runs, four hits and two walks. Davis came in to relieve and went the final 2 2/3 innings, striking out a pair of Athenians, allowed a run, two hits and a walk.

Both teams (1-0) are in action at home against West Vigo on Monday night at 7 p.m.
