John Robert Means, 78, died at The Villages Hospice House April 7, 2010.

He was born in Vigo County, and moved to this area in 2004, from Clearwater, Fla.

He was a retired Captain of the U.S. Marines.

Mr. Means was a private contractor and served as Condo Association F.P. at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.

John enjoyed boating, skiing, tennis, pickle ball and construction.

Survivors include his wife Cecilia Means, The Villages, Fla., daughters Diana Elam, Monroe, Ga., and Bonnie Morgan, Palm Harbor, Fla., and sister Patty Swearingen, Brazil, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Glen Means and Jesse Means and sisters Hazel Eldev, Edna Means, Mary Harmon, Eva Kays, and Alice Webster.

A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla., with full military honors. Online condolences may be sent to www.hiers-baxley.com. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Service.
