A new look Northview girls' tennis team got off to a rocky start Monday, dropping their season opener against Plainfield.

The visiting Quakers looked dominant from the get go, earning straight set wins in every match, both singles and doubles. Northview coach Emily Goff expressed discouragement with her team's performance, but said she did not anticipate her club would display similar poor showings throughout the season.

"The girls definitely had first match jitters," Goff said. "We didn't play to our potential and we saw a lot of things we need to improve on."

In singles play, Hanna Goff, Lauren Reberger and Kaci Kehrt were dealt decisive losses to Plainfield's Hannah Knust, Courtney Siepman and Becca Brock by scores of 1-6, 1-6; 1-6, 3-6 and 4-6, 1-6 respectively.

In doubles, the Knights were more competitive, but still weren't able to capture a set.

Briana Cook and Connor Reinoehl fell to Lindsey Fouty and Nicole Smith by a tally of 5-7, 3-6.

Carlie Coughanowr and Lizzie Emmert forced a tiebreaker in the first set of their match with Olivia East and Audrey Koeberlein, but lost the extra frame 2-7. Coughanowr and Emmert then lost the second set 1-6.

Goff said one major area of improvement for her doubles squad was on-court communication. And despite the string of straight set losses, she also stressed she was happy with where each girl was placed.

"All the girls are at the spots they should be," Goff said.

Despite her disappointment in her team's season opening performance, Goff said her team didn't have time to focus on Monday night's struggles, and had to quickly bounce back before Wednesday's road match at Linton. Goff said she fully expected her club to atone for their poor play against Plainfield.

"We plan to work on the mistakes we made (Monday) and come out ready to play on Wednesday," Goff said. "I expect the girls to play like we all know they can."
