Polling locations for the 2010 Primary Election have been finalized with a few changes.

Poll locations were initially presented to the Clay County Commissioners during the April 5 regular meeting, but a couple of the locations had to be changed because of the current construction at Forest Park and Staunton elementaries.

Clay County Clerk of the Circuit Court Vickie Wheeler brought the updated list of polling locations for the commissioners' consideration during a special meeting Friday.

"The polling location for Posey Precinct 3 will now be at the Berea Christian Church, and those in Brazil Precinct 4 will be voting at the Brazil National Guard Armory," Wheeler said.

Wheeler said polling locations are required to be handicapped accessible, and construction at the two schools has drastically limited parking capabilities, which were both reasons for the need to change locations.

"We have been told voting may be able to return to the two schools for the General Election in November," she said.

With the change, residents in both Brazil Precinct 4 and Jackson Precinct 3 will be voting at the armory, which Wheeler told The Brazil Times should be no problem.

"It will all be in the same room at the armory," she said. "But the machines will be at opposite ends of the room with a partition separating the areas."

Wheeler added while precinct committeemen are responsible for contacting the polling locations, the commissioners have final say in the matter and must approve the locations prior to each election.

Early voting has also begun and will continue through May 3, with voting available from 8-11 a.m., and noon-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, during that time period. Early voting will also be available on two Saturdays (April 24 and May 1), from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Clay County Election Office, located on the second floor of the Clay County Courthouse.

For more information about early and absentee voting, contact the Election Office at 448-9023, or by fax at 446-9602.

The next regular meeting of the Clay County Commissioners will be 9 a.m., Monday, May 3, in the Commissioners' Courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse.
