Driver injured, then arrested after accident

The driver involved in an accident on State Road 59 Monday has been arrested.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Monday, members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police along with Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, Clay County Search and Rescue and TransCare were dispatched to single-vehicle accident in the vicinity of 6887 North State Road 59.

According to information provided by the CCSD, Rene V. Blackwood, 22, Florissant, Mo., was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.

However, after receiving treatment and blood alcohol testing, Blackwood was taken into custody upon release and transferred to the Clay County Justice Center. She was booked on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana over 30 grams.

Blackwood remains incarcerated on a $20,000 cash bond (with 10 percent allowed) awaiting further court proceedings.
