Heart Gallery exhibit to be on display

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

An inspiring photo exhibit featuring candid images of Indiana children waiting to be adopted, will be on display April 17-April 28, at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil.

The Indiana Heart Gallery, which portrays children currently involved in Indiana's foster care system, is free and open to the public Monday-Thursday, from 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday from 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday from noon-5 p.m.

The gallery of professionally produced photographs is on display to increase awareness among families about Indiana children of all ages who are currently available for adoption.

Photographers volunteer their time to capture each child's unique spirit in portraits that have helped many of them find homes.

Hosted by the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) and Hederick Partnerships, the Heart Gallery will provide an opportunity for families to consider giving a child a home.

"Many of the children photographed in the exhibit have been waiting to find a family to love and support them. By sharing their stories and portraits, we hope to find a loving family for each oh them," DCS Special Needs Adoption Program Director Helen Stevenson-Williams said.

Heart Galleries are traveling exhibits that provide special opportunities for families to consider adopting one or more of the children who are featured.
