INDIANAPOLIS -- Julia A. Wickard, Executive Director of USDA's Indiana Farm Service Agency (FSA) recently issued a reminder to producers that June 1 is the deadline for enrolling in the 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program or the traditional Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP).
This is a mandatory deadline for all participants and USDA will not accept any late-filled applications.
"It is critical for producers to begin the enrollment process as soon as possible," Wickard said. "Over 100,000 farms were enrolled in DCP/ACRE Program during 2009. To date, approximately 50 percent of Indiana's farms have been enrolled in 2010 DCP/ACRE Programs.
"At the current rate of enrollment, it is possible that a significant number of farms eligible for 2010 DCP/ACRE will not be enrolled by the June 1, 2010, deadline. FSA understands that spring is here and planters are headed to the fields.
"We just don't want our Hoosier farmers to miss this important deadline," Wickard continued.
All signatures of producers receiving a share in DCP/ACRE payments are required by the June 1 deadline.
It is important producers contact their local office to set up appointments well before the deadline.
