Traffic backed up due to fatal accident on I-70

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

VIGO COUNTY -- Local residents are asked to find alternate travel routes through Brazil during an ongoing travel emergency on Interstate 70.

Members of the Terre Haute Indiana State Police Post are currently working a personal injury accident in the westbound lane of I-70, near the 9-mile marker in Vigo County.

Due to a helicopter air ambulance landing and emergency service workers attempting to extricate a subject trapped inside the wreckage of the fatal accident. Officials have confirmed no appointed time for reopening the road has been established at this time.

According to ISP, motorists traveling on I-70 should exit at State Road 59 at approximately the 23-mile marker and go north to United States 40 to Brazil, then turn west until reaching US 41, where they can turn south and until reaching the westbound onramp of I-70.

Members of the Brazil City Police Department are currently working traffic detail to help motorist get safely through Brazil.
