Area student honored

The Academic Business Council and Ivy Tech Community College have selected David E. Swearingen, 503 N. Meridian St., Brazil, as one of Terre Haute North High School's outstanding students for 2009-10.

David is a freshman at Terre Haute North and was nominated for the Career-Technical Achievement award by teachers in honor of his continuing effort, dedication and perseverance.

The Career-Technical Achievement award will be presented at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Terre Haute North Auditorium and a reception will follow.

The criteria for the award include the ability to apply skills and take directions, initiative, attitude and grade point average.

Swearingen was also honored at the Terre Haute North Academic Banquet, which took place at Indiana State University's Hulman Center April 28. Students must achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher to be honored with the award.

David is a member of the Terre Haute North Patriot Brigade Marching Band, which recently performed at Disney World, and the Chess Club. He is a member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church's Youth Choir and Bell Choir and is a frequent area instrumental and vocal soloist. He is also a member of Brazil Concert Band and Community Theatre of Clay County.
