Thurman J. Hargis, 81, Brazil, died May 2, 2010, at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility, Knightsville. He had been a resident there for several years.

He was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Bobtown, Ky., the son of Moses and Florida Whittis Hargis. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 45 years. He worked for Lonestar for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He married Betty Cooksey Hargis on Dec. 18, 1965. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and working in his vegetable garden.

Survivors include his wife Betty, Brazil, children Sandy Morlan, Sommerset, Ky., Judy Burk (Mike), Sommerset, Arlene McAuliffe, Jim Hargis, Lee Hargis (Barb) Joyce Phillips (Bill), Dean Grigsby (Barb), Larry Grigsby (Penny), all of Brazil, 30 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, two brothers Tommy Hargis (Mary) and Truman Hargis (Lee), Eubank, Ky., two sisters Justine Tackett (Smith), Eubank, and Josephine Lee, Spencer, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers in infancy and one infant sister, two sisters Thelma Floyd and Tressie Sims, son Don Grigsby, son-in-law Connie Morlan, grandchildren Amanda Morlan and Larry "Buddy" Grigsby and great-grandson Todd Wilson.

Services will be held Thursday, at 10 a.m., at French Funeral Home, with Brother Bob Stultz officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m.
