A robust Northview offense made quick work of Owen Valley, taking a 12-2 blowout win in softball action Friday night.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Knights' offense started a gradual explosion, which would carry them to a 10-run rule victory. Lauren Webster got the scoring started with an RBI single in the second inning, while Nicole Nelson tied the game with a sacrifice bunt. The Knights then took the lead in the next frame, when Sarah Phillips drove in a run with a double and later came around on an error.

It was the fourth inning where Northview shined brightest, putting up six runs.

Alyssa Conrad led off the inning and scored on a wild pitch two batters later. Taylor Carter and Jessica LaTourette followed with RBI doubles, while Nelson put an exclamation mark on the proceedings with a two-out, two-run single. Coach Bethany Jones was very quick to sing the praises of her potent offense.

"Our bats really came around very solidly for us tonight," Jones said of her team, which put at least two runners on base in every inning. "It was a good overall effort."

Aside from her lead-changing hit in the third, Phillips also produced a solid effort on the mound. After allowing two runs on two doubles in the first, Phillips was dominant in the following three innings, allowing no hits and only one base runner.

"(Sarah) was able to pitch on top after falling behind most of the first inning," Jones said. "She was much better hitting her spots, which allowed our defense to make plays."

The win moves Northview to 12-8 on the year, and 3-3 in WIC play. There have been many highs and lows for the inconsistent Knights this season, and Jones said a team meeting was recently held in which such issues were confronted. The coach said the meeting was to stress the importance of staying focused as they prepared for the approaching post season.

"We're at a critical point in our season right now," Jones said. "This is when everything really starts to matter, and I told the girls they need to be prepared to bring it every night from here on out."

The Knights return to action quickly, as they head to Turkey Run today for an 11 a.m. contest.
