The sectional draws for area baseball teams were made on Tuesday morning for postseason play beginning on May 27.

The Class 4A Terre Haute North Sectional No. 13 features a tough field each battling for a regional spot.

The opening game of the sectional will feature Terre Haute South against Martinsville followed by the Northview Knights facing off against Mooresville. The winner of those two games will square off in the semifinals before the host Patriots take on Plainfield in round two.

The Knights scored a win against Mooresville earlier this season with Kodie Girton throwing a complete game, one-hitter in a 7-0 Northview victory. Girton also struck out 13 Pioneers in the contest.

Northview also owns a pair of wins over Plainfield, 9-0 and 21-6 in five innings and defeated Terre Haute North, 9-1 behind Craig Bell's one-hit pitching. The Knights pounded out an 18-7 win against Martinsville on the road in the third game of the year. The lone loss absorbed to a sectional opponent came against Terre Haute South in the Big Four Tourney, 11-5.

Terre Haute South is the defending sectional champion, posting a 5-3 win over the Knights in the semifinal before downing Terre Haute North in the title game, 6-0. The Braves lost 1-0 in a 10-inning heartbreaker to New Albany in the opening game of the Evansville North Regional last year.

In the Class A Shakamak Sectional No. 57, the Lakers will once again play host to the tourney and received the bye. Shakamak will face the winner from the first game of the sectional, a match-up between Union (Dugger) and Clay City. The other semifinal game will be between White River Valley and North Central (Farmersburg).

The Eels picked up a 10-0 win over Union in which D.J. Newton threw a five-inning no-hitter while striking out six.

Clay City has also defeated North Central, 9-6, using a five-run rally in the top of the seventh inning for the win. The Eels also defeated the Wolverines this season, posting a 14-4 victory. In that win, A.J. Evans homered twice to go with a long ball from Tyler Bridgewater and Landry Moss.

Shakamak is the defending sectional champion and currently is ranked eighth in Class A with a 17-7 record. The Lakers defeated North Central in the championship game last year, 5-3. The Thunderbirds reached the title game with a 4-2 win over the Eels in the semifinal game.

Shakamak eventually reached the Final Four before falling to Vincennes Rivet in an 8-7 decision.
