GREENCASTLE -- The Northview baseball team wrapped up the regular season by blasting Greencastle on the Tiger Cubs home field, 19-1 in five innings.
TJ Decker and JT Jeffries combined to allow only a single unearned run in the game while striking out five and allowing five hits.
Caleb Mason had a huge night with a home run, double and two singles to go with four RBI and three runs scored in the victory. Zach Hull added a single, double, three RBI and scored once and Zac Niehaus had two base hits, scored four times, drove in two runs and stole a pair of bases.
Andrew Butts continued the Knights' 18-hit attack with a pair of singles, scoring three times, stealing two bases and driving in a run. Carson Kleiber hit a triple, scored twice and drove in two more runs for Northview and Drake Stevenson had a single, double, drove in three runs and scored twice. Joey Thomas had a hit and scored two times, Jordan Allen added a single and a run scored and Roy Brown had a double and scored.
The offensive outburst stood in stark contrast to the Knights' sluggish weekend in Carmel where they garnered 11 hits over two games in a split. Coach Scott McDonald felt that Monday's explosion was a good lead in to sectional play next week.
"We destroyed the baseball tonight. We worked this morning on staying on the ball and going the other way and it paid off in a big way," McDonald said. "After a frustrating weekend offensively, we came out tonight with a purpose. The offense got a big boost tonight heading into tournament play on Thursday. Everything is lined up well for us to meet our first goal."
The Knights (22-5 overall) will face Mooresville on Thursday, June 3 in the second game of the Terre Haute North Sectional.
