Norma Jane Brown, 72, of Shadylane Road in Brazil, passed away at Seton Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis, May 26, 2010, following a brief illness.

She was born May 15, 1938, in Knightsville, the daughter of Ben and Nettie (Haltom) Wallace.

Norma attended Van Buren High School through her sophomore year. She later returned to Van Buren in 1969, graduating with the class of 1970.

Norma married William J. Brown Feb. 11, 1956.

She worked for Hunts Restaurant as a waitress and later Wind Breaker, Columbia House and Fox Photo.

More recently, Norma served as the Director of the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry for many years.

She was a member of the Knightsville Eastern Star Chapter 238, where she served as Worthy Matron several times. She also served as the Past President of District 8, and as the Past Grand Representative to Tennessee with the Order of Eastern Star.

She was an active member of the Croy's Creek Congregational Christian Church.

She enjoyed participating in Eastern Star events, working at the food pantry and spending time with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren bowl and play softball.

She will be remembered as a caring and loving person who gave of herself freely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William J. Brown, son John Brown and wife LeeAnn, brothers Donald Wallace, Lester Wallace and William Wallace and infant sister Julia Wallace.

Survivors include her daughter Becky Baire and husband Dennis, Brazil, son Bill Brown and wife Lori, Brazil, grandchildren Lacey and Kyle Brown, Travis, Sarah and Emmy Baire, two sisters Janet Wallace and Ruth Sciotto, both of Brazil, brother Jim Wallace as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services for Norma will be at Croy's Creek Congregational Church Monday, May 31, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Paul Zurcher officiating. Burial will follow at Croy's Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Sunday, from 4-8 p.m. Order of Eastern Star services will be held during visitation at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clay County Food Pantry maintenance fund 506 E. Pinckley St. Brazil, Ind. 47834.
