United Way set for its annual 'Day of Action'

TERRE HAUTE -- In an effort to support volunteerism throughout the Wabash Valley and to build community, the United Way of the Wabash Valley will conduct its annual "Day of Action," Friday.

This year's "Day of Action" consists of 30 projects with more than 260 volunteers who will donate a half-day of service to nonprofit organizations in the community.

Most of the projects will take place between 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m., for a free breakfast at the Zorah Shrine located at 420 N. 7th St., Terre Haute.

Many of the projects are landscaping and painting for the 37 United Way partner agencies such as Catholic Charities of Terre Haute, but some others include building an exhibit at the Children's Museum and assembling a cat condo at the Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society.

Agencies with projects include Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Success By 6, Bright Hope Riders of the Wabash Valley Therapeutic Riding Program, Inc., Sullivan County Area Rehabilitation Center, Catholic Charities of Terre Haute -- Ryves Youth Center, Community Alliance and Services for Young Children (CASY), Council on Domestic Abuse, Dobbs Park, Goodwill Industries, Kid Kare Projects, Inc., Lifeline, Light House Mission, Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society, Serving on the Streets, Sisters of Providence, Terre Haute Children's Museum, Terre Haute Family Y, Terre Haute Humane Society, United Cerebral Palsy, United Child Care, Valley Day Care, Vigo County Historical Society, Vigo County Public Library, Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity, Wabash Valley Senior Citizens Center, and West Vigo Community Center.
