More drug suspects apprehended

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Local law enforcement officials remain busy with more drug arrests.

According records at the Clay County Justice Center, six more suspects were taken into custody recently.

On Friday, around 10:30 p.m., Brazil City Police Patrolman Elliott Mullinix pulled over a vehicle in the area of Chestnut and Depot streets for a faulty light.

While talking with occupants Angel Cravens, 22, Jonathon Bault, 20 and Dustin Bates, 25, all from Spencer, Ind., Patrolman/K-9 Handler Jeremy Mace arrived with K-9 Officer Anya to perform a perimeter "sniff" of the vehicle. Anya positively detected the presence of drugs.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located an undisclosed amount of marijuana, paraphernalia and prescription drugs without a proper prescription.

All three were taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Justice Center without incident.

Cravens and Bault were both booked on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, while Bates was preliminarily charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, hashish/hash oil.

Jail officials confirmed all three suspects have bonded out to await further court proceedings per the court calendar.

Meanwhile, members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department continued to take suspects into custody in connection with Thursday's warrant sweep.

Suspects James A. Parlett II, 28, and Judith Parlett, 63, were taken into custody on allegations of a class A felony dealing schedule II controlled substance, class C felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and class D felony maintaining a common nuisance.

Another suspect, Shawn Johnson, 38, was also taken into custody for dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy and maintaining a common nuisance.

Information, according to officials, regarding the identity of remaining suspects wanted in the warrant sweep will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Just a group of poor misunderstood folks with big hearts that would do anything for you. There, since someone would say it, I got it out of the way.

Way to go BPD.

huntingtime, correction. Parlett 1 is grandmother to parlett 2 and the myers girl. Though parlett 2 was raised by grandma as her own son. Messed up, yeah.

Way to help guide your grandkids grandma!!

Mr. Thall, thanks for the laugh! I thought when I first read it (before I saw your name) that it was a real comment. Because yes, someone DOES always say it.

Keep up the good work BPD!!! When you're all done, the city of Brazil will be a ghost town!!!! I think Parlett II looks a wee bit happy to have his mug shot taken!!

GREAT JOB !! NOW JUDGE, DO YOUR PART !!

I just hope the Clay County court system can put these people away for a good long time. But we all know that they will be out doing the same stuff in a week or two.. Let's fix the court system and make an example out of these criminals. They are the dangerous ones with the prescription drugs and meth. These drugs lead to more criminal activity and physical harm than guns. Destroying the mind and body, not to mention the lives of their families. POISON

Also, do they bring in the dog for every traffic stop? NO! Seems like profiling to me. Watch out druggies, if your from out of town, you will be hassled.Leave your DOPE at home!!

No they don't bring out the dog unless the officer feels there is a need to. Great job Elliot Mullenix for feeling the need for the dog on this one.

Great job to the DOT officer in Putnam County as well. I have been in this town for 45 years and can't remember so much drug activity involving law enforcement. Great job to all of you for getting the arrests made. I am praying that the prosecutors office and the rest of the court system have their ducks in a row to prosecute these low lifes and KEEP THEM OUT OF OUR COMMUNITY!!!

Ha ha @ Lee Thall .. ; ) I fell into that trap, too, C&CM! If we'll be a ghost town .. maybe some of the vacant houses can be torn down and the grass mowed! I, for one, am EXTREMELY happy to see the photos of those arrested.

Thanks to the drug-sniffing dog, too!

Keep after them, officers!!

-- Posted by Emmes on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 9:52 AM

Brazil needs more K-9's to cover all shifts. Think of the arrests these two officers have made by having Anya with them. To triple that would be great.

Ain't it grand that so many people around Brazil sell drugs to make all kinds of money, can't even afford to replace a burned out bulb, then get nabbed because of it. I think it's hilarious.

Good job Elliott and Jeremy! OH, Anya, too!

-- Posted by Dagnabbit on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 11:35 AM

Dopes on dope! How appropriate!

Good job BPD & CCSD. Keep at it and be safe!

Great Job CCSD and BPD--it's great to see one of the newest officers out there making a difference. As for Lee Thall, you're starting to grow on me, keep up the good posts.

Dear Readers,

Judith Parlett was visiting family in Florida when she was informed that there was a warrant for her arrest and her home had been searched. The search produced no evidence of any illegal activity. She contacted me to make arrangements to turn herself in.

The State refused to prepare the paperwork for an arraignment and permit me to present her to the Court to seek something other than a standard bond of $5,000.00. This 63 year old woman has no criminal history. The State insisted that she present herself to the jail, which she and her son did. Since that time, the State has failed to file the paperwork to permit her to be arraigned and seek a bond reduction. The State is in danger of being forced to release her on her own recognizance for failure to timely charge her.

I don't know anything about any of the other suspects, but it appears to me that Ms. Parlett was falsely set up by someone trying to get out of a charge. Is it any wonder why she looks so angry in the photograph? The evidence will surely tell.

This guy wants to be PROSECUTOR?????????????????Give it up!!!!!

-- Posted by virginiagrace on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 4:25 PM

Sorry, Charlie. Looks like you can kiss this election goodbye. And I was hoping for you, too.

-- Posted by Dagnabbit on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 4:31 PM

Charles- Haven't charges already been filed since there was an arrest warrant issued for her? I think you're going about things the wrong way if you want to be our prosecutor. You may have made a good prosecutor, but, in my opinion you've shot off your mouth and/or keyboard once too often and blew your chance.

-- Posted by snow on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 4:59 PM

I think she looks angry because she was just arrested and she will miss Bingo tonight! Maybe that is the same reason her son/grandson looks happy?

-- Posted by Oldtown on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 5:25 PM

While being held in the Clay Count Jail, I was privileged to over hear the sheriff's deputies laughing and joking on how they we going to set my house up for another search since the first one turned up no evidence. This search is to take place tonight at 11 pm. While out on a leave today from his stay at the jail, Jay, who's real name is Josh, said that he saw the the trash cans, wood pile, and dog house would be ideal places to plant some of the 80,000 oxycotin along with 3 lbs of marijuana that the sheriff keeps on hand in the evidence room. So how would I know what, when, or where this was going to happen other than the fact that the jail staff were talking about it all day today.

Now why would you think that I would want the people of Clay County to know this, well, let's think about it, if you are arrested for drug dealing and possession wouldn't you think that some kind of evidence would have been found? Yes, with the fine officers that do their jobs, I'm sure there would have been, however, since I am not guilty of this crime and they were not able to find anything, thus, the fabrication of evidence is pursued. So be forwarned that if your name gets given to the police in order to keep someone else out of jail, you too, might be facing charges, evidence planting, and prosecution.

For the sake of clarity, I do not have anything negative to say about our local Police Officers or Sheriff Deputies. In fact, they do an excellent job.

Additionally, I do not know anything about nor do I support anything said by "Judyintheskies."

The comment about seeing him in the courtroom is so true..he was hired by someone i know and he ripped them off by not showing up in court ...then oops i forgot...then the next court date (over a divorce thats all) he showed up and we ran into another current client of his who was upset over the same issue...i have heard tons of negative about his attorney skills please dont let him be prosecuter...the bad outways the good ..the whole time in court he was taking a divorce case and trying to turn it into a murder scene the judge just kept laughing at him...this is just my opinion i am sure some people think he is a saint.

Too heavy for me!! I never understood legaleze.

No matter what anyone says, and there are alot of opinions here...WOW.., there is a reason for many of these drug to be illegal or prescription... THEY ARE DANGEROUS!!!

THEY ARE POISON TO YOUR MIND AND BODY!!!

THEY ARE DESTROYING OUR FAMILIES!!!

AND THEY ARE KILLING OUR CHILDREN!!!

A doctor has been in the news recently for providing medicine to addicts and enabling a presciption drug overdose Those are your legal drugs. I will stop there because I wouldn't want to be subject to any verbal assaults or overly complicated discussions. CHILL OUT PEOPLE..we are listening to your opinion and only stating ours. Lets not be so angry and hostile. I can't believe some of the posts that are making it on here!! LIGHTEN UP, we all have an opinion and we will all be heard.

-- Posted by CCmudman on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 10:46 PM

I can't believe that an attorney would post comments about his client's case to this "almost" forum. Your client's information is supposed to be privileged information between you and her, is it not? What exactly do you expect to gain by posting this information in the comment section of this article?? Sympathy for your client? Could your post be a violation of the Bar Association ethics rules?

BTW, I posted earlier that someone would let us know that the suspects were just poor misunderstood innocent folks and BINGO, you didn't let us down.

-- Posted by I. M. Lee Thall, Esq. on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 11:06 PM

Lee Thall, I wondered the same thing. I can only conclude that she must have asked him to come and defend her here. In any case, he seemed to have rapidly separated himself from the case after judyinthesky posted. LOL

-- Posted by olmedic on Wed, Jun 23, 2010, at 11:18 PM

I suppose that Judyintheskies is probably Judith Parlett. Ms. Parlett, did the police show up at your house at 11pm to search it and plant their drugs on you? Any thought that you may be innocent is out the door with your paranoid ramblings about the Sheriff having 80,000 oxycontin tablets on hand to use to set people up. If the Sheriff and his officers were in the business of setting people up with their 80,000 pills, why didn't they just say that they found them at your house when they searched it the first time? doesn't make much sense does it? I also find it hard to believe that the Sheriff or his Deputies hang out in the jail around the prisoners and talk about setting people up-that's laughable. The next step in you and your attorney's play book will probably be having you come out for Jesus--it never works, but criminals keep on trying it.

Best soap opera I "seen" in a long time. Opinions people---opinions!!! Got a lawyer stating a clients case, a blogger sputting the law, shouts of guilty & innocent, & many many wisecracks. Facts: there was a drug bust; many dealers, users & abusers off the streets of our town; they will get their day in court; then it is up to a judge,

-- Posted by minimite on Thu, Jun 24, 2010, at 3:27 AM

Way to go BPD. I am suprised this has not happened sooner as I know that Ms. Parlett has been saling prescripton drugs on the street for sometime. She has had her son/grandson and other family members saling them as well. I for one am glad that her actions are finally catching up with her. I do feel sorry for her other family members who have nothing to do with any of this. Ms. Parletts problems go way back. It is a shame she has involved so many other people but they knew what they were doing was wrong and made the decision to go ahead and do it anyway. Anyone who knows Ms.Parlett also knows that if you cross her she will make your life miserable. It has always been what Judy wants Judy gets no matter what the cost. I hope the justice system finds a fitting punishment for all her actions.

This has been the best laugh I've had in days! Thank you Lee Thall, you rock! I have to agree that I have no doubt that these "fine" people will once again "find Jesus" or be "big hearted great upstanding innocent and whatever else" at least until we get to see all their lovely profile pics again complete with drug user black bags under the eyes with their sad puppy dog expressions again after the next drug bust! just like the last crew from the earlier bust looked so familiar.

-- Posted by Dyna1 on Thu, Jun 24, 2010, at 5:57 PM

Putnamco69, I see that you really do know Judy. I have known her since I was a child. She used to be married to my uncle. I never did like her. She was manipulative and controlling then. She conned my grandfather into letting her handle his money. Lo and behold she suddenly had new appliances and a new car. Her attorney said she has no criminal record. That's because she was never caught. She left my uncle many years ago and should not have the Parlett name. She has disgraced us all.

Wow, these comments obviously must have been posted by the local bodunk think tank. It's the first time I've ever read objection to real information, unless you consider the who cares gossip informative. If you were in court to form an opinion of Charles Hear's skills, were you there for a criminal proceeding? Are you at all qualified to form an opinion on case law? You nitwits wrote, "gorlly, I surely hope the prosecutor's office and the rest of the court system have their ducks in a row"...... Mr. Hear was posting that the Prosecutor's office indeed DOES NOT have their ducks in a row." The information he posted is a matter of public information, not the actual case. Snow- no a warrent does not act as formal charges filed against an individual. A warrent is a document issued by the State showing probable cause, location, individuals name and the intention of the State. Charges are filed as a result of the warrent, depending on the evidence gathered. The comments you've posted are slanderous and inapropriate at best. Why don't you form an opinion on where to put all these people being arrested. The new Justice Center is overcrowded along with every Facility in the State of Indiana. Or, I know - where did the funding come from to staff the new Justice Center upon it's completion, depleating all funding for it's construction? Surely not YOUR tax dollars. I found YOUR postings hilarious. I don't think anyone thinks Charles Hear is a saint, I think, HELLO, they think he's an ATTORNEY, you know, at LAW. Stop embarrassing yourselves, Silverlining

-- Posted by Silverlining on Tue, Jun 29, 2010, at 3:41 AM
