More drug suspects apprehended
Local law enforcement officials remain busy with more drug arrests.
According records at the Clay County Justice Center, six more suspects were taken into custody recently.
On Friday, around 10:30 p.m., Brazil City Police Patrolman Elliott Mullinix pulled over a vehicle in the area of Chestnut and Depot streets for a faulty light.
While talking with occupants Angel Cravens, 22, Jonathon Bault, 20 and Dustin Bates, 25, all from Spencer, Ind., Patrolman/K-9 Handler Jeremy Mace arrived with K-9 Officer Anya to perform a perimeter "sniff" of the vehicle. Anya positively detected the presence of drugs.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located an undisclosed amount of marijuana, paraphernalia and prescription drugs without a proper prescription.
All three were taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Justice Center without incident.
Cravens and Bault were both booked on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, while Bates was preliminarily charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, hashish/hash oil.
Jail officials confirmed all three suspects have bonded out to await further court proceedings per the court calendar.
Meanwhile, members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department continued to take suspects into custody in connection with Thursday's warrant sweep.
Suspects James A. Parlett II, 28, and Judith Parlett, 63, were taken into custody on allegations of a class A felony dealing schedule II controlled substance, class C felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and class D felony maintaining a common nuisance.
Another suspect, Shawn Johnson, 38, was also taken into custody for dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy and maintaining a common nuisance.
Information, according to officials, regarding the identity of remaining suspects wanted in the warrant sweep will not be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
