He was born Dec. 10, 1915, in Poland, to Hugh H. and Verna Mae (Hauck) Nees.
On Aug. 6, 1939, in Poland, he married Florence Clara Ahlemeyer. She survives along with daughter Donna (Rev. Dr. William) Hemmig, Elkhart, grandchildren Christopher Hemmig, Columbus, Ohio, Erin (Michael) Paul, Muncie, and Anna Hemmig, Elkhart, and great-grandchild Elijah Paul.
Also surviving are sisters Norma McDonald, Mabank, Texas, and Patty (Jim) Reberger, Knightsville, brothers Forrest (Ruth) Nees, Louisville, Ill., Wayne (Roberta) Nees, Poland, Kenneth (Diana) Nees, Poland, and Robert (Gloria) Nees, Bainbridge, Ind.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Gailard was a carpenter by trade and was employed in the Mobile Home Industry for several years.
He was co-owner of Nees-Hickerson Products in Edwardsburg, Mich., retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the Clay Masonic Lodge No. 85, F.&A.M., a member of the Bluegrass Grange and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
He enjoyed gardening.
Visitation in Elkhart will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday (June 25, 2010), at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, at the church.
Additional visitation will be from 11-11:30 a.m., Saturday (June 26, 2010), at the Zion United Church of Christ, Poland, where funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m., Saturday.
Officiating at both services will be his son-in-law Rev. Dr. William Hemmig, from St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
