Staunton Scene

Friday, June 25, 2010

On Sunday, July 11, the new Staunton Community Center will host an open house/gift shower from 1-4 p.m., in the afternoon to officially welcome the new building into the community.

Meat and drinks will be furnished and everyone attending is asked to bring a covered dish and a gift for the building.

The center can use dish towels, dish rags, dishwashing soap, toilet paper, and other practical items. Also, cash or checks are always welcome and appreciated.

Everyone is invited to come out and see the beautiful building, meet with friends and neighbors and enjoy some food.

If you have any questions, call the water office at 448-1487, Barbara Ripple at 448-2438 or Anita Ave at 448-3023.

Staunton First Christian Church

Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m., with worship service following at 10:30. Doug Parkey is the minister. Doug will be on vacation this Sunday and Mike Simmons will bring the morning message.

If you need transportation to morning worship service, phone the church office at 446-3211.

The bus is wheelchair equipped.

Children's church and Wee Worship meet at 10:30 a.m., in the Educational Building. The annual Congregational meeting will immediately follow morning worship service. Wednesday evening Bible study and Prayer Group meet at 7 p.m. There will be no Sunday evening service this week.

Staunton United Methodist Church

Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m., with church service following at 10:30. David Brown is our Pastor and his wife Elaine brings the Children's Message. Glenna Simons is the pianist.

Remember that the Community Food Pantry is open in the church's basement from 3-5 p.m., on the last Wednesday afternoon of each month. Sorry for the mistaken date in last week's column. The next Food Pantry day will indeed be next Wednesday, June 30.

Anyone in the Staunton area in need of help is welcome. We truly appreciate the support of Staunton First Christian Church and Staunton Elementary School as well as other churches, civic organizations and individuals in helping to make this needed outreach a success.

Please keep praying for everyone who is battling illness, as well as all the brave men and women of our military and their families.

Also remember in prayer all the folks in nursing homes and hospitals, and those who have lost loved ones. And pray for a solution to the oil disaster in the Gulf.

Go out of your way to be kind to someone and pray for everyone.
