Flash Flood Watch extended

Monday, June 28, 2010

The Flash Flood Watch issued Sunday evening for Clay County was extended until 11 a.m., today, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) based in Indianapolis.

According to the service, a "slow moving cold front," brought showers and thunderstorms into the area and since the ground is already saturated and rivers and streams are high, moderate rainfall could cause flash flooding.

The flash flood Watch was issued for Bartholomew, Boone, Brown, Clay, Daviess, Decatur, Delaware, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Jackson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan, Tipton and Vigo counties.

According to NWS, thunderstorms were possible through the morning hours and were also possible Saturday night into Sunday, but the service said it was "too early to determine if severe storms can be expected."
