Lewellyn leads the way at Pete Dye stop in Gosport

Brazil's Shane Lunsford carded a 97 at Rolling Meadows on Wednesday, but was coming off a victory in his age group at Forest Park during the Pepsi Tour stop.

GOSPORT -- The Pete Dye Junior Golf Tour made its third stop of the summer at Rolling Meadows Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon with a number of golfers making the trip for 18 holes of tourney play.

Terre Haute's Grant Lewellyn shot a 79 to lead the way in Gosport on the course where the high school boys' sectional was played on June 7.

Alan Jackson shot an 82 while both Trey Boor and Trenton Goda shot an 84 in the tourney. Cam Lewellyn shot an 85 with Walker Smith at 86, Jud Myers shot an 88 and Conner Daugherty at 89. Shelby Waggoner was at 95 along with Austin Ranard, Shane Lunsford tallied a 97 with Keegan Roembke at 104 and Nathan Swafford at 107.

Next Wednesday's tourney will be played at Mark's Par 3 beginning at 1 p.m. and is open to all junior golfers.


Lunsford, of Brazil, picked up his second win in a four-day period on Tuesday by shooting a winning round of 78 to win the 12-year-old division in the Aquafina -- Pepsi Tour stop at Forest Park.

Lunsford started his round on fire with birdies on both of the first two holes and added two more and the par-4 fifth and sixth holes to make the turn at 2-under-par. Lunsford then finished with a one stroke win over Quinn Pizzo of Bloomington.

Robert Waggoner was third with an 84 followed by Palmer Tweedy at 86. Brazil's Nathan Thomas was fifth with a 90, which followed a 17th-place finish at Cascades last week where he shot a 92.

Lunsford also won his age group at The Brazil Open over the weekend.

Noblesville's Noah Lodin shot a 74 to win the Boys 10-11 division.

Megan Ramer of Terre Haute, won the Girls 10-11 division with a nine-hole score of 47.

Terre Haute's Andrew Granda shot a 36 to win the 9-and-under division over Peyton Snoeberger of Williamsport, who shot a 4-over score of 39. James Jackson was third in the division.

Granda was coming off a victory at Cascades last week where he shot a 42.

Grace Waggoner of Vincennes won the Girls 8-9 division with a 45 over nine holes and Evansville's Anna Tucker won the Girls 12 division with an 81 over 18 holes.

Also on Tuesday, Greencastle's Alec Davis shot a 75 at Deer Creek Golf Course in Plainfield to claim a three-shot win over Terre Haute's Adam LaGrange.
