Larry Mager, 69, Brazil, died Sunday evening July 4, 2010, at Cloverleaf Health Care following a short bout with cancer.

Larry was born Sept. 27, 1940, in Diamond, Ind., the son of Andrew and Elsie (Philabaum) Mager.

He graduated from Brazil High School in 1958 and went directly to work at American Vitrified Products in Brazil.

For several years, he was employed at Union Carbide (Linde Division) in Indianapolis and later went on to work at Alcan Aluminum in Terre Haute.

He retired from there in September 2002 after 35 years of service.

On Oct. 21, 1961, he married Harriet Smith on Harmony. They would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in the fall.

Larry was a member of the Carbon Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill Mager, Greencastle, and Richard and Jim Mager, both of Carbon, brother-in-law David Chapman, Carbon, sister-in-law Wanita Mager, Vail, Ariz., and great-niece Haley Bain, Reelsville.

He is survived by wife Harriet Mager, son Doug Mager (Mona), Brazil, daughter Beth Pelkey (Mike), Wadsworth, Ohio, grandchildren Garrett Mager, Brazil, Heath Pelkey, Laryn Pelkey, Nate Pelkey, Brett Pelkey, all of Wadsworth, Ohio, sisters Shirley Chapman, Carbon, and Ruth Ann Purcell (Jerry), Brazil, brothers George Mager, Vail, Ariz., Bob Mager (Cindy), Bridgeton, Ind., Perry Mager (Myrna), Rosedale, and Leonard Mager (Elaine), Terre Haute, sisters-in-law Gayla Mager and Vicki Mager, both of Carbon, and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place Friday, July 9, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Mager Cemetery, west of Diamond.

Officiating will be Pastor Howard Hughes and Larry's brother, Pastor Perry Mager.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, from 4-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services Friday.
