David Maurer

David Maurer, 33, Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Brazil, passed away July 3, 2010.

He was born June 6, 1977, in Indianapolis, the son of John and Kathy (Gilliam) Maurer. David graduated from Northview High School with the class of 1995. After high school, he attended Indiana University, Bloomington, for two years later transferring to Indiana State University. He worked as a waiter at the Apple Club in Terre Haute and transferred to San Rimos at the Holiday Inn North in Indianapolis.

While in Indianapolis, David earned a Bachelors Degree, in Psychology, from IUPUI in 2003. David moved to Pensacola, Fla., in 2004, where he worked as a waiter at TGI Fridays. David experienced Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.

In the fall of 2005, David migrated West, ending up in Las Vegas, and worked as a server and bartender for The Captains Table, a five-star restaurant in the Aladdin Resort. He returned to Indianapolis in January 2007, where he worked for Taylors Pub as a bartender. David moved to Colorado Springs, in June 2008 to be closer to his sister Emily. Most recently, David was working for Womacks Casino in Cripple Creek, Colo., as a bartender.

In his free time, David enjoyed traveling, hiking and being surrounded by his friends.

David was known to be a very talented bartender and server. He took his career very seriously having served notable people such as Larry Bird and Nicholas Cage.

He was preceded in death by his mother Kathy Maurer, paternal grandparents Dr. Robert and Jane Maurer, maternal grandparents Donald and Jeannette Gilliam and a cousin Jeff Woodward.

He is survived by his father John Maurer and wife Martha, Brazil, sister Emily Staley and husband Justin, Colorado Springs, Colo., aunts Susan Hicks and husband Don, and Donna Garver, uncle Kevin Gilliam and Bill Woodward, cousins Karen Fettes and husband Steve and Robert Hicks and wife Dena, Brian Woodward, as well as many extended family members.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Saturday, July 9, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, from 4-8 p.m.
