Phylliss Elaine Phenis, 64, Brazil, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, after a very courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born May 24, 1946, in Brazil, the daughter of Harlon and Frances (Roseberry) Phenis.

She graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1964.

Phylliss earned her B.S. degree in Social Work from Indiana State University and began working with the Clay County Welfare Department in 1968.

For the first 15 years of her career, she worked in the placement and supervision of children. For the remainder of her career, she worked in public assistance.

Phylliss retired in 2001 due to physical injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She has been a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.

Waiting for Phylliss at Heaven's Gate will be her parents, paternal grandparents Sarah and Ralph Phenis, maternal grandparents Bessie and Clarence Roseberry, her three closest friends Janice Kitch Willey, Rita Smith Robinson and Phyllis Wagner, a number of classmates from the BHS Class of 1964, and Mary and Levi Russell.

Phylliss is survived by her sister Sue Phenis, aunts Georgia Strain and Pauline Tribble, uncle David Powell, and cousins Donna McCammon, Don Powell, Jack Townsend, Tom Lechner, Eileen Kennedy and Tena Hedges, and many loving, caring friends.

Services will be at French Funeral Home, Saturday, July 17, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rick Wetnight officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home, Friday, from 4-8 p.m.
